Coaching
Andrew Marston is an experienced and accredited Coach and Mentor, holding the NCFE Diploma in Performance Coaching and Associate Membership of the Association for Coaching. His Coaching style is very much “solutions focussed” building on what the individual already knows and does well to create small steps and improvements towards their goals.
Andrew’s style of coaching is informal and non directive which largely assumes that the individual’s experience is the key to future development rather than his. He is able to coach successfully outside of his area of professional knowledge and expertise by adopting an approach which is detached from the professional problems and helps the individual to focus on resolving their issues most effectively through a range of techniques and questions appropriate to the situation.
In Mentoring, Andrew brings extensive experience at executive level in public sector organisations and the insight of the HR expert to bear along with his coaching skills to help individuals to develop their own plans and solutions to improve ownership and commitment.
This is what some of Andrew’s clients say about his work with them through Coaching and Mentoring:
Ex Local Government HR Director, facing a major career change:
“I found Andrew’s style which is a mixture of coaching mixed with sharing his own experience both challenging and supportive. Challenging in the sense that he provided the right environment for me to identify and consider the best options for me and supportive in the way his open and personable manner provided the right atmosphere of trust and understanding which I believe is critical between coach and coachee. I would personally recommend Andrew as a very effective and supportive coach.”
Detective Chief Inspector “G” – working as the head of C.I.D. investigating all serious crime in a busy city division:
“ The coaching sessions have identified clear learning and development points and I have consciously gone on to seek out development opportunities in the organisation rather than focussing on my normal daily tasks, especially in developing my strategic perspective. Andrew has been excellent in ensuring that I identified key issues that I could take away and focus on. He ensured that I formulated a structured development plan and helped me to develop a different style of working but, more importantly, a different way of thinking.”
Deputy HR Director, new to the police service:
“Andrew has been coaching me since I joined the police service and he continues to help me through the complexities of delivering an effective HR service by using his high level knowledge, experience and understanding. Andrew is a brilliant sounding board and his relaxed friendly and subtle style has helped me to focus on key strategic issues, identify good progress (when it is sometimes not immediately apparent) and to reach my own conclusions about the best way forward in complex circumstances
Current Coaching Supervisor:
Andrew is a very skilled and exceptionally able coach. I have been impressed with his ability to work with the client’s agenda, be flexible in response to clients’ needs, and maintain the highest professional standards. Andrew was an excellent HR Director and, amongst his many other skills, his ability to lead and develop teams, communicate with people of all backgrounds and abilities, work strategically, and design and implement change initiatives enhance his coaching work tremendously.
